Who we are

Studio K is a full-service boutique interior design firm founded by Karen Frank and Kristen Dommel, specializing in residential and commercial interior design.

Karen and Kristen strongly believe in delivering quality interiors that transition houses into homes where memories are created. They are known for creating beautiful interiors that are visually stunning, yet functional and comfortable, and are reflective of their client’s tastes, interests, and lifestyle.

Their trademark style is evident through the sophisticated use of color, texture, and light, combining the best of their individual aesthetic for a unique and personalized look.

Karen Frank

Karen’s love for design is shaped by the places she’s explored and the little details she notices along the way. Travel has always been one of her biggest sources of inspiration. During her time living in England and traveling abroad, she fell in love with the character of old architecture, the stories behind antiques, and the beauty of mixing history with a fresh, modern perspective.

Her signature style blends classic and contemporary — creating spaces that feel timeless, comfortable, and full of life. She’s drawn to homes that feel lived-in yet elegant, where every detail feels intentional but never overdone. Clean lines, relaxed beauty, and thoughtful layers are always part of her process.

Karen also finds endless inspiration in the work of other artisans — from florists to textile makers — and the way they use color, texture, and light to tell a story. At the heart of her work is a simple philosophy: the most beautiful spaces are the ones that feel warm, grounded, and deeply personal.

Kristen Dommel

Kristen’s design approach balances form and feeling, drawing inspiration from a wide range of architectural styles—from the clean lines of Prairie to the opulence of Baroque.

After graduating college with a BS in Interior Design and working in commercial design in Baltimore, MD as well as a home builder in Lancaster, PA – Kristen knew the timing was right to merge with Karen Frank to become Studio K.

She creates interiors defined by texture, light, and thoughtful layering, resulting in spaces that are both inviting and intentional. Influenced by architecture, nature, and close collaboration with clients, her work emphasizes spatial harmony, material interplay, and the lived experience of each space.

Kristen’s interiors reflect ease and timelessness, crafting environments that are grounded, warm, and deeply considered.
